Troubleshooting Y1 Solar Panels

Our Y1 cameras (two antennas) will work with any solar panel that is 12V compatible.

Most 12V panels will have a test button with LED lights. The more lights that illuminate when you push the test button, the more charge the panel has.

To use your Y1 solar panel with your camera, make sure that the cord is securely fitted from the 12V port of the solar panel to the bottom of the camera (push pretty hard to make sure it is secure).  The solar panel will not power the camera if it is plugged into any other port besides 12V.

To ensure the panel is powering the camera, turn the camera off. Make sure the panel is fully charged, and secure the cord from the 12V port of the panel to the camera. Take one battery out of the top bay and one out of the bottom bay of the camera. If the camera powers up in SETUP mode, the panel is working correctly.

Note: A 12V solar panel will NOT charge the AAs inside the camera, even if the AAs are rechargeable. The camera will run off the power from the panel, then when the panel needs to recharge, it will switch over to the AAs. Since the panel is an external power source, your app will always show the battery level as "High," even if your AAs are dead. If your camera stops sending and is connected to a solar panel (and it's been a while since you changed the AAs), the camera may have power down.
