Battery life varies greatly depending on many factors. We have listed battery options below, as well as the most common factors that affect battery life so you can choose the battery option that is best in your situation.
Battery Options:
Rechargeable battery pack: Our most recommended option, the lithium-ion battery pack will last anywhere from 1-6 months without a solar panel, and much longer with one. This is our most sustainable option, as you will never have to buy batteries again. These can be found for sale on our website, or by clicking here.
Lithium AAs: We recommend Energizer Ultimate Lithiums. These will last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, give or take, and can withstand extreme temperatures much better than alkaline batteries. Downsides are cost and the fact that they run at such a high voltage that there is usually no warning in your app (the batteries will likely die showing a "Medium" battery reading).
Alkaline AAs: Usually have a battery life of 2-4 weeks, give or take.
Most Common Factors Affecting Battery Life:
Activity: High-trafficked areas will use more power than areas with little activity.
Settings: video mode, upload frequency set to "Instant," a frequent timelapse (such as every 2 min.), and server check frequency set to "Every 30 min." can all run batteries down quicker.
Signal: Areas with very weak, weak, and even moderate signals use more battery power.
Time: Nighttime pictures/videos and pictures/videos in colder temperatures will use more battery power.
