Firmware will automatically update for the Y2 (one antenna) camera. Within 24 hours after activation, the camera will attempt to download a firmware update from our server (an 8-minute process). No action is required by you. If you see the SD status light blinking, please don’t turn your camera off. When new Y2 firmware comes available in the future, it will automatically update with no action needed from you.
To manually update firmware for Y2:
1. When the camera is in the OFF position, press and hold the TEST button. While still holding the TEST button, turn the camera from OFF to SETUP.
2. Wait for about 12 seconds, until only the SD card status light flashes. Then release the TEST button. At this time the camera will begin the upgrade process (about 4 minutes). Leave the camera powered ON.
3. Upon completion, the camera will reboot and the Signal and Account status lights will flash while the camera looks for a signal.
4. Once all lights are solid green or yellow, push the test button to send a test picture to your account.
For Y1 (camera with two antennas) cameras:
The stamp on the bottom of your image indicates your FW version.
Old firmware, upgrade recommended.
Current firmware, no need to upgrade.
To upgrade old firmware, you'll need us to send you an SD card, then follow the steps below. Please email support@yellowstone.ai for instructions on how to get your SD card.
-
Turn camera OFF.
-
Remove current SD card and insert the new SD card.
-
Make sure camera power is stable (powering off during a firmware update can permanently damage your camera).
-
Switch camera to SETUP mode and press the MENU button.
-
Arrow right to OTHER, then arrow up to FW Update and press OK.
-
Select SOFTWARE (red) and press OK; then select YES (red) and then press OK.
The camera will display “Update FW” while it’s updating. Keep the camera powered on for approximately 2 minutes. You'll know that the update is complete when the camera displays the Yellowstone.ai logo and begins "Searching." After “Searching” and “GPS Searching” disappear from the screen, press the circular OK button to take and send a test picture. After you receive your test picture, turn the camera ON.
You can leave this SD card in the camera (or turn the camera OFF and swap this SD card with another one 32 GB or less before turning the camera back ON). You can use this same SD card to update multiple cameras, as long as they all have the same lens.
Upon completion, your camera's settings will revert to factory default settings. Feel free to call us if you need assistance changing your camera's settings. Check out our instructional videos at www.yellowstone.ai/support for a refresher on camera settings.
